School is one of the important units in developing child’s personality and after school family follows in child’s personality. Thus the family and the school are the central places for the development of children but due to the absence of a close school, home and community liaison our education system suffers from number of impediments. The present paper shows how school social workers can play a significant role in enhancing conducive school and family environment for effective learning. In addition it illustrates the vast scope of social workers in the education setting

    Building Decision Adviser Bots

This overview article explores the prospects and promises of new technologies for developing conversational software to aid, assist and advise people in personal and organizational decision situations. The quest for conversational decision advisers began in the 1970s with the development of interactive, computing systems like the Hewlett-Packard 2000 Access Time- Share systems. With the advent of Cloud-based, Artificial Intelligence development environments, the capabilities needed to develop conversational software are increasingly available and easy to use. Hence, it is feasible to develop decision adviser (DA) bots and the bots are easier to deploy. Bots can be built for action taking and for question and answer dialogs. DA bots can be deployed for use in both structured and semi-structured decision situations. DA bots can perform increasingly complex tasks. Overall, more exploratory design science research is needed to improve our understanding of the design, development, and deployment of DA bots for use by managers, customers, and clients

    Lean Processes without Compromising Controls

In today’s economic environment, governments feel the pressure to operate more efficiently, and many are therefore considering the gradual and continuous process improvement that Lean provides. Lean begins by examining a process from beginning to end, without departmental barriers; identifying the parts of the process that are inefficient; making a case for Lean improvements; and improving the process by reducing activities and waste that don’t add value to the consumer of the process

A strategic value appropriation path for cloud computing

Cloud-based information management is one of the leading competitive differentiation strategies for firms. With the increasing criticality of information management in value creation and process support, establishing an integrated capability with cloud computing is vital for organizational success in the changing landscape of business competition. These issues have received scant attention, however. We draw on the resource-based view, dynamic capability hierarchy concepts, and the perspective of operand and operant resources to suggest a cloud value appropriation model for firms. We argue that, to appropriate business value from cloud computing, the firm needs to effectively deploy cloud computing and leverage cloud operant resources as firm capabilities in a hierarchical fashion toward the development of cloud computing-based service models in order to reliably achieve the desired business outcomes. We propose a model encompassing the principles of infrastructure and cloud platform deployment, integration and service orientation, and alignment with business processes that explain the linkage from cloud computing to firm performance. We test this approach to value creation with a cloud computing implementation assessment model using a sample of 147 firms that have implemented cloud computing in India. Our analysis uncovers a strategic value appropriation path from cloud technological capability to firm performance via cloud integration capability, cloud service portfolio capability, and business flexibility. This research offers new insights regarding the underlying mechanisms for how cloud computing affects firm performance via cloud-enabled capabilities and the business functions that are supported by cloud capabilities

Cloud-Integration and Business Flexibility: The Mediating Role of Cloud Functional Capabilities

Cloud based information management is emerging as the next generation strategies for competitive differentiation for firms. With information management capability (IMC) being critical for companies to obtain value, establishing an integrated capability based on cloud systems is vital for firms to win in a changing competitive environment. However, this area has received scant attention in extant literature. We propose that the integration of cloud with local IT systems is a critical factor that leads to business performance, and argue that superior integration of cloud with IT (synchronization integration) improves business performance attributes of business responsiveness and business scalability. Furthermore, we theorize that this effect is mediated by cloud functional capabilities consisting of technology, market offering and service portfolio capabilities. Empirical analysis supports hypotheses. Along with contributions to Information Systems research, the study sheds light on how cloud integration can influence business performance via mediating cloud functional capabilities
